Pay As you Go Solar

Interesting to follow the development to solar technology and how it is reaching to rural areas of myanmar and the heights of Himalayan. Lets hope it bring impact to the people #tech2impact

Pay-as-You-Go Solar Illuminates Developing Nation
In rural parts of developing countries, sunset often means darkness. But off-grid solar installations are increasingly changing that. The technology may not be new, but the falling price of photovoltaic panels and lengthening lifespans o...f LED bulbs is making it possible to provide homes with power on a pay-as-you-go basis. Customers pay a small up-front fee to secure a solar panel, battery, LED lightbulbs, and phone charging points, then pay off the remainder over time.
Such schemes are being rolled out in India, Myanmar, and even Himalayan monasteries. But perhaps the biggest concerted effort is occurring in sub-Saharan Africa. As Jonathan Rosen writes for MIT Technology Review, such initiatives are already starting to thrive in East Africa, where the largest off-grid solar operator in the region, M-Kopa, has sold more than 400,000 systems in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda since 2011. And it looks set to spread: just yesterday, Netherlands-based Nova Lumos raised $90 million to deploy pay-as-you-go solar power in Nigeria.
