Interviewed on AL-Hijrah TV (on the Issue of Rohingya)

Terima kasih TV Al Hijrah kerana memberi peluang menyuarakan pandangan dan pendapat mengenai isu pihak Rohingya semalam. Berikut adalah beberapa unsur yang timbul dalam sesi soal-jawab semalam (walaupun bukan semua jawapan di siarkanlah)

1. Segala perbuatan penindasan ke atas pihak Rohingya harus diberhentikan dengan serta-merta. Perbuatan sedemikian tidak harus berlaku. Pihak kami mengesa supaya peraturan undang-undang (Ruler of Law) dipatuhi and pihak kerajaan Myanmar harus mengambil langkah sedemikian dengan segera.
2. Kami menganggap kewarganegaraan pihak Rohingya adalah pekara yang rumit dan semua pihak yang terlibat haruslah mencari penyelesaian secara aman.
3. ASEAN harus melibatkan diri and harus juga mempertimbangkan polisi tidak bercampur tangan. Isu ini sudah menjadi isu antarabangsa. Penglibatan harus dibuat secara strategik dengan mengambil berat sensitiviti pihak-pihak tertentu.
4. Isu ini bukanlah isu konflik antara agama. Ada segolongan kecil dan pihak tertentu yang memperalatkan agama dalam isu ini. Kami telah mangesa dan akan terus menyuarakan kepada pihak yang terlibat supaya agama tidak menjadi sebahagian isu dan konflik ini.
5. Agama harus menjadi arus kearah penyelesaian. Terdapat lebih inisiatif positif antara agama di dalam dan di luar Myanmar yang menyokong penyelesaian secara aman dan berdialog. Kesemua mereka harus diberi lebih sokongan dan peluang untuk menyuarakan inisiatif mereka. Pihak media mempunyai peranan yang penting.

I would like to thank TV AlHijrah for the opportunity to express my views and opinions on the issue of the Rohingya people in Myanmar. Here are some key points discussed during the interview the other day (although not all the answers were aired during the show) :

1. All acts of violence and oppression against the Rohingya people must be stopped immediately. Such acts should not even happen. We urge the Myanmar to exercise the Ruler of Law and to take steps to stop further violence.
2. We recognize the position on the citizenship of the Rohingya is a complicated and internal issue and we urge all parties involved must come to the negotiations table and to find a peaceful solution.
3. ASEAN should be involved and to reconsider its non-intervention. This issue has become an international issue. Engagement should be made strategically with care the sensitivity of all parties.
4. The issue is not an issue of conflict between religions. There are small groups who exploit religion in this matter. We urge all parties not to make this into a religious conflicts, and will continue to do so
5. Religion should be a solution to the problem with their values and practice. We must highlight and recognize that there are many positive interfaith initiatives inside and outside Myanmar that supports a peaceful solution through dialogues and discussions. All of these initiatives should be given more support and their voice be heard. In this respect, the media have an important role to play.

我要感谢TV AlHijrah（马来西亚电视台） 给我机会，对缅甸罗兴亚人的课题上，表达我的看法和意见。以下是当天访谈中提到的几个要点（虽然部分的回答在节目播出时没播放）：

1. 必须立即停止对罗兴亚人的一切暴力和压迫行为。这些行为本就不应该发生。我们敦促缅甸行使法律，并采取步骤制止今后进一步的暴力。
2. 我们承认有关罗兴亚公民的身份，是一个复杂和内部的问题。但我们催促有关各方，必须来到谈判桌，齐心寻找一个和平的解决办法。
3. 东南亚国家联盟 应参与并重新考虑其不干涉。此问题现已成为一个国际问题。参与的方式更应该从战略角度去考虑，同时谨慎顾忌其敏感性所涉及到的所有各方 。
4. 这个问题不是宗教之间的冲突问题。只是有一小撮人群在这件事上利用宗教兴风作浪。我们劝告所有各方不要将它变成宗教冲突，并请各方继续这样做，保持和谐。
5. 其实，以宗教的价值观和修行才应该是解决问题的方案。我们必须强调并意识到缅甸境内外，有许多积极宗教间的倡议，通过对话和讨论，支持寻找和平解决的办法。所有这些倡议都应得到更多支持， 他们的意见和声音更应被聆听。在这方面，媒体扮演着举足轻重的角色 。
