End of Project: Symposium Komuniti Bebas Denggi

After 2 years, I think we can safely say that the DCT, the development of a Dengue Control ToolBox (DCT) is nearing completion with the conclusion of the Symposium and the presentation of papers written during project.

The DCT is a comprehensive innovation-based dengue control through prevention strategies which is centered on empowering communities. This is done using innovative tools and processes. A pilot program in 30 locations was conducted in 2015, funded by the Malaysian Ministry if Science Technology and Innovation (MOSTI).

As a new team takes over, there is still much more to do. Processes, technologies must continue to evolve. Greater partnerships and collaborations has to be forged, participation from the various major stakeholders meeds to be involved, bridging the community and authorities. Much work and strategic approach is needed to ensure its continued success.
Integration with existing processes and working with new ideas will be a must. Indeed, we must not underestimate the power of a small insect. Some more reflections here.

Check out the Community's website http://bebasdenggi.my or it's youtube page if you would like to know more about the project.

It has been an interesting project and appreciate the opportunity to have led it. Thank you for the confidence and deep appreciation to the whole team who put so much effort in this program. Special thanks to all the members of the communities who have volunteered their time to help make our community safer.

Still Pictures: Cultural and Modernity

One things that has always been in my mind is how does culture gets transformed by modernity. In this shot captured in Hanoi, it is interesting how this lady responded to possibly no-so-positive news.

We have seen in many cultures, their modern technology removes some aspect cultures. Are new cultures evolving in the process or is globalised consumerism taking over our lives?

Rogue One

Just saw Rogue One the other day.

Really good to see Chinese Kung Fu finally found its way to the another galaxy far, far away. Truly a universal fighting art.

Above all,
its amazing how a whole movie can be created in between episode III and episode of IV of star wars, and later kills off ALL its characters.

a lesson in emptiness and form?

empty pockets to form a blockbuster?

Still Pictures: The Cambodian Life

The following 4 pictures were taken in Siem Reap on my last visit there. I this kinda sums up life there - straight forward and tough, protective, hardworking and at times wondering what's the future in a country struggle to find political and economic meaning.

this lady was trying to cross a busy Siem Reap street. I was sitting at a nearby cafe, until she saw me that's when I caught her!

Still Pictures: Back in Myanmar

Always liked travelling and capturing the evolving lives of people in an merging economy.  Took out my trusted NIKON while working on a financial inclusion project in Myanmar.

possibly the more efficient mode of transport

always love street food and like to capture the stall owner without the camera in front of them.  I took my time to compose the picture in my head and them lifted the camera and just shoot. The little girl behind managed to photobomb this picture in a split second

I think this is life everywhere with kids. In this remote village, there are no maids and no iPad to be the babysitter.

*NOT* my favourite part of travelling in Myanmar

Pay As you Go Solar

Interesting to follow the development to solar technology and how it is reaching to rural areas of myanmar and the heights of Himalayan. Lets hope it bring impact to the people #tech2impact

Pay-as-You-Go Solar Illuminates Developing Nation
In rural parts of developing countries, sunset often means darkness. But off-grid solar installations are increasingly changing that. The technology may not be new, but the falling price of photovoltaic panels and lengthening lifespans o...f LED bulbs is making it possible to provide homes with power on a pay-as-you-go basis. Customers pay a small up-front fee to secure a solar panel, battery, LED lightbulbs, and phone charging points, then pay off the remainder over time.
Such schemes are being rolled out in India, Myanmar, and even Himalayan monasteries. But perhaps the biggest concerted effort is occurring in sub-Saharan Africa. As Jonathan Rosen writes for MIT Technology Review, such initiatives are already starting to thrive in East Africa, where the largest off-grid solar operator in the region, M-Kopa, has sold more than 400,000 systems in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda since 2011. And it looks set to spread: just yesterday, Netherlands-based Nova Lumos raised $90 million to deploy pay-as-you-go solar power in Nigeria.

A Golden Opportunity for Compassionate Governance (Updated)

Updated. Well, golden opportunity lost. Unfortunately.

Following up on the Kelantan Blockade issue.

I think this is a golden opportunity for the MB (Chief Minister) and the Kelantan State government to demonstrate a compassionate humane governance approach to the matter.
